Sushi with a Finnish twist, herring nigiris

Sushi is awesome. Because shipping tuna and other classical sushi ingredients to Finland is

a) expensive
b) bad for the environment

we’ve experienced with some more local ingredients to replace them. Since eating raw lake fishes is not recommended, we marinated our herrings for a few hours.

Herring nigiri

Sushi rice (obviously)

50g Herring ( 4 filets)
0,5 dl rice vinegar
0,5 tbs salt
0,5 ts sugar
1 ts vodka (We recommend Finlandia)

Mix the ingredients and marinade the herrings in a fridge for an hour.

For those of you, who wonder what that other nigiri is, it’s whitefish with chive.

It’s pretty great as well.
